Applied social psychologists might help businesses hire and train employees, evaluate educational programs to determine if intervention strategies are working, search for ways to encourage people to reduce pollution or offer advice to businesses or employees who need help with conflict mediation. Social psychologists examine peoples interactions with others and with the social environment, explains the U.S. Department of Laborâs Occupational Outlook Handbook. They work in organizational consultation, marketing research, systems design or other applied psychology fields. Many social psychologists specialize in a niche area, such as group behavior, leadership, attitudes, and perception. Work Environment Because social psychologists are trained to combine their knowledge of human behavior with scientific research methods, job options and work settings can be very diverse. Many social psychologists choose to work in educational environments such as colleges and universities where they conduct research, teach classes and run social psychology laboratories. Other social psychologists work for government offices, non-profit organizations, hospitals, social service offices, and private corporations. Salary According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, typical salaries for psychologists vary based on education, experience, specialty area, and work setting. The next step is to enroll in a graduate program in social psychology. Some programs follow a two-step process by first awarding a masters degree in social psychology and then a doctorate, but other programs may skip the terminal ?masters degree and go straight to the Ph.D. For most students, it will take at least four to five years of graduate study in order to earn a Ph.D. in Social Psychology.? How Social Psychologists Differ From Personality Psychologists While social psychology shares some similarities with personality psychology, there are important differences that distinguish the two areas. Personality psychologists generally focus on individual differences between people, while social psychologists are more interested in how situational variables influence the behaviors of groups and individuals. Social psychology is sometimes confused with sociology, but the two (while somewhat related) are not the same. Social psychologists tend to focus on the behavior of individual people or small groups of people while sociologists look at very large populations such as entire social groups or cultures as a whole. Job Outlook One survey that looked at job advertisements appearing in the APS Observer Employment Bulletin between 1991-1996 found ads seeking social psychologists made up 10 percent of all job listings for that time period. However, it is important to remember that social psychologists work in a wide variety of job areas, so individuals with a Ph.D. in social psychology are frequently able to find work in related areas. Social psychologists who are looking for work can start by checking out job listings posted by the American Psychological Association on their PsycCareers website or reviewing the job postings on the Social Psychology Networkâs job forum. How to Write a Sociological Research Paper
How to Write a Sociological Research Paper Research paper is one of the most complicated academic papers for students in the education process. No matter to what field a research paper is dedicated social or natural there is a standard format for it. The main purpose for the entire work is testing the hypothesis set for the research. The distinctive feature of the sociological research paper is tight correlation between theory and practical research. Theories could seem unreliable and meaningless without facts. The value of the paper is never determined by verifying of hypothesis. The most important thing to remember is that hypothesis supported by data shouldnt be completely right or wrong. It may be true in some points and may be disproved in others. For science, negative results can be even more important than the positive ones. Here are several tips for successful sociological research paper: Statement of the problem. First of all, you need to attract readers attention, introducing the problem and explaining why this definite social problem is interesting, what you intend to show or argue and why. Development of the hypothesis. You can bring short review of theories and researches concerning the problem. Then you develop a logical argument based on existing findings coupled with your theory, that leads to the statement of your hypothesis. Effective hypothesis should be measurable, comparative and falsifiable. Methods. Here you bring the description of the sample employed and point out the variables used for testing your hypothesis. You just need to pay enough attention to details to let others replicate your procedures to receive (lets hope) the same results. Discussion. What is the status of your hypothesis after the field experiments? Is it proved or not? Apart from this, the discussion part of the work can feature some related findings, which can be indirectly related to your hypothesis.

A Critique of ââ¬Å"OPECâ⬠ââ¬â The Website OPEC stands for ââ¬Å"Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countriesâ⬠and is comprised of the largest oil-producing nations of the world. Through OPEC, these Member Countries work together to control the price and availability of oil--one of the most significant commodities in todayââ¬â¢s worldwide economy. Founded in September of 1960 with headquarters in Vienna, the OPEC organization is currently comprised of twelve member countries (History of OPEC, 1). As d emonstrated in the 1973 October War between Egypt and Israel, and the 1990 Persian Gulf War between Kuwait and Iraq, the global oil market impacts much more than the economy. Rousseau stated that ââ¬Å"the OPEC countries did not want to reduce prices, for fear that they would undermine their whole pricing structure, lose their economic and political gains, and so diminish their political influenceâ⬠(Rousseau, 1998). OPEC serves a seemingly essential purpose, though differing agendas for financial gain and political influence make success impossible among separated countries. The general purpose is meant to prevent countries from producing too much oil which would drive down the price, thereby reducing profits. It is an interesting idea, but it is impossible to believe that individual countries join forces to manage the supply and demand of oil production in order to ensure that everyone makes a profit: someone will cheat. It would be important to keep oil-producing countries on a ââ¬Å"budgetâ⬠that defines the number of millions of barrels of oil that is allowed to be produced by a country daily.
